Perhaps you should mention another security tool: Secunia PSI. It is the installed version of a program that checks their database and detects out-dated or insecure software installed on the local machine. There is also a web-based version: Secunia OSI. I find it quite helpful. For instance, the Java updates don't remove older versions; just leave them in place. Secunia detected them as out-dated, even though I was using the current version. (Some software apparently doesn't necessarily use the latest version, but seeks what was current when it was released.) -- J. M. P.
